Frequently asked questions
Q. How does payment work?
A. 50% of the first month up-front to start work, then the remaining 50% four weeks later. After the first month you’ll be invoiced the relevant fee every four weeks. The level of work is reviewed every month to see if you need more, less, or the same level of support.
Q. I’m not sure what level of input I need?
A. No problem, if it’s our first time working together it’s hard to know exactly what to expect, so let’s discuss your project and work out the best place to start. We can always switch up the pace later.
Q. A whole month? I just need one thing, and I need it now!
A. Let’s talk about what you’re looking for. The monthly model is a general guideline that works in most scenarios because it allows for enough ‘ambient time’. Creative projects require moments of intense effort, but they also benefit from time in between those sprints where they can bubble away in the back of the mind.
A project can start one way, but as things evolve during the process, the scope changes. The monthly model allows us to take it all in stride, priorities can change and new ideas can be embraced without constantly tinkering with a rigid, itemized proposal.
Q. I need a website, what can I expect?
A. I design and build websites in Squarespace, a hugely popular website builder that offers plenty of freedom for customization. It’s a great solution for most projects. If you need something outside Squarespace, I would give the look & feel of the website to a developer as Illustrator or Photoshop files, then provide ongoing design support during the build if necessary.
Q. What does the monthly fee include?
A. My time, whether it’s working on your brand strategy, visual identity, website, app interface, art direction, you name it. Any external costs are additional and will be pointed out to you as soon as they come into view. This might include photography, font licences, 3D rendering, print production, specialist web development, video editing…
